advice from the Joker and why he's wrong

“If you’re good at something, never do it for free.” - The Joker

Don’t listen to this advice because the Joker is DEAD WRONG.

I’ve been building my personal brand for almost 4 months now.

I’m launching an online course to teach others how to start their personal brand FOR FREE! 🤯

I call it… Degen Creator Academy. It’s a 2 week sprint with a hand selected group of degens so they can be where I’m at.

“What authority do you have to launch your own course?”

Look, I don’t need 10k followers to prove I built a great personal brand.

What have I accomplished?

  • made $7k last month

  • networked with the top content creators on Twitter

  • worked with 10+ Web3 brands to build their marketing strategy

Here’s the thing: I’m throwing away the Joker’s advice and giving out all this knowledge FOR FREE!

But why?

To grow my personal brand!

My reputation matters more than a couple thousand dollars.

Marketing Tip: Use Freebies to grow your Twitter

If you want to grow your account fast, you have to GIVE AWAY $$$ FOR FREE.

$$$ doesn’t mean money.

$$$ = anything that is valuable!

This can be:

  • Knowledge

  • Exclusive products

  • Community access

  • Coaching

  • NFTs

Check out my friend Oledoteth! A month ago, he had around 1000 followers.

He gave away 3 Freebies (like the one below) and he’s going to almost at 4k followers.

Here’s another example.

A week ago, my client, QRdano, had 400 followers. Today, they have 1k+ followers becauuse of this giveaway.

Giveaways aren’t bad. Only doing giveaways is.

When you have giveaways, make it something valuable and of high interest. But to balance it out, post high quality content too.

No one wants to follow an account always doing a giveaway.

Creator Tool: Gumroad

I like to use tools that simplify my life as a creator. Gumroad makes it easy to collect emails when you offer free digital products.

Gumroad is an e-commerce platform for creators!

Whether you’re selling digital products, memberships, or anything else, Gumroad makes it easy to give out freebies, collect emails, and earn your first dollar on the internet.

This platform is free to use. When you decide to charge for any of your products, they’ll take 10% + processing fees.

In my opinion, this take rate is high!

So I recommend using Gumroad to give out free products to grow your social media accounts.

Weekly Test: Freebies

2 weeks ago, I said I’d do one Linkedin post per day and I still haven’t done it. It’s because I realized that I don’t need to dive full force into Linkedin just yet.

I wanted to experiment on Twitter more, so I did my first freebie to grow my following.

It’s called 100 Days of motivation to help founders, creators, and builders start their day motivated.

AND IT FLOPPED!

I’m happy it didn’t work out because it taught me an important lesson:

Give away something so valuable it makes you sick to give it away for free.

I spent 20+ hours making 100 Days of Motivation, but I was happy to give it away for free.

That’s the problem.

My next freebie will make me sick to my stomach. The tradeoff here is money for followers.

Although I don’t care about how many followers I have, 10k+ followers is social proof I can build an audience to my future clients.

Next week, I’ll share lessons from launching the Degen Creator Academy as it’s an experiment.

See you next Tuesday Degens!
