From Laid-Off to Building My Web3 Brand
Level with the 3 T's every week.
I got laid off from a unicorn before my career even started.
I wish I was talking about a mythical creature, which would be way COOLER. I’m talking about a startup that reaches a $1 billion valuation.
In my last semester of grad school, I was taking courses, writing my Master’s project, and working full-time at a Web3 startup as a product marketer (yes…my stress levels were at an all time high).
But, I loved every second of it.
Then, I graduated and took off half of my workload (no more grad school babyyyy). Now, May 2022 is forever ingrained into my memory. I went from a normal Degen to a Degen with a Master’s degree. At the same time, the crypto market was dropping like its hooooot… more like cold. The crypto winter started in the summer.
The same summer the startup I worked at became a unicorn.
So I thought I was safe from the layoffs.
I wasn't. My time at the Web3 company came to an end that June.
I was… Shocked. Terrified. Happy!
HAPPY?
Although I loved the company I worked at, I was burnt out.
My eyes were melting from staring at a screen all day. My back hurt from sitting all day.
My brain was exhausted.
So I took 2 months off. In that time, I decided to double down on working in Web3. I’ll spare the details of what happened between then and now (for now).
Fast forward 7 months later. I’m building my personal brand and here's my 1st newsletter.
It’s a learning process for me, but every week I’ll level you up with 3 T’s.
• 1 Marketing TIP to grow your personal brand or web3 company.
• 1 Creator TOOL to improve your content output.
• 1 Weekly TEST to experiment with different content, tools, systems, and strategies to grow my brand. Feel free to join me on this one.
After you read each newsletter, be a degen and let me know what you think! Ready to become a degen? Let’s go!
Here are this week’s 3 T’s:
1. Marketing tip: Create a great Twitter BioA great bio turns eyeballs into followers. Your bio is an elevator pitch. Since you have 5 seconds or less to convert someone, let’s make it clear. Start by answering these 5 components:1. Target Audience
2. Their Pain Points
3. Your Solution
4. Your Uniqueness
5. Why Trust you? Use this template inspired by Rob Lennon to plug in the 5 components.I help (target audience) who want to (pain point) by sharing (your solution). I'm different because of my (unique method). You can trust me because (why trust you?).
My example: I help content creators and brands who want to grow & monetize their audience in Web3 by sharing daily tweets on marketing & the creator economy. I’m different because I own 600+ NFTs and know how web3 audiences think. You can trust me because I’ve helped 5 web3 brands with their marketing and 10 creators grow.
This is the basis of your bio. Now, all you have to do is cut it down to 160 characters. Remember, there’s no perfect bio. So experiment. I’ve changed mine at least 20 times since I started.
2. Creator tool: Quillbot Paraphraser
Last year, I was knee-deep in writing my Master's thesis and had hit a roadblock.
With 140+ pages, I needed to cut down on the word count and improve the overall quality, but I just didn't know how.
Then, I stumbled upon Quillbot paraphraser.
This writing assistant has been a game-changer for me.
And the best part?
The tool has a free version and an extension to use in google docs!
Even though you’re limited in the free version, Quillbot still improves sentences, shortens paragraphs, and provides you with synonyms.
I turned that 140+ pages into 90 pages. And I still use this tool today to improve my writing online.
I opted for the premium version ($100 per year) because it offers more writing tools like:
•grammar checker
•plagiarism checker
•citation generator
•summarizer - turn long-content into key points
•co-writer - everything above and web research in one tab!
I don’t have to use tons of different writing tools because the premium version has everything I need.
3. Weekly test: 1 Meme per day
Crypto Twitter loves memes.Memes are a great way to sprinkle some humor in your content to build trust.
But, how can memes grow your brand? Let's find out.
This week I’ll post 1 meme per day.
Next Tuesday, I’ll share how they performed AND my thoughts. Feel free to join me!
